The Ukrainian School Heads
Association (USHA) is a voluntary public organization of directors and deputy directors of Ukrainian general secondary schools and
Vocational Education Training institutions (VETs), who have voluntarily joined together for the purpose of achieving the
Association's main aim: to help develop national education as a crucial means of creating the Ukrainian State, to improve the
professional skills of school managers and protect its members' interests. USHA's
Charter, has been registered and approved in accordance with the appropriate legislation. There are over 1000 members in the
Association - school directors and deputies from different regions of Ukraine. During the past few years, despite the difficult
economic situation, a huge amount of work has been done to achieve recognition of the organization at the national and international
levels, to create the conditions for school director training. A training system has been established (with centres in Kyiv, Lviv,
Striy, Kirovograd, Kharkiv, Odessa and Rivne), taking into account relevant national experience and the experience of European
countries. A database of information on education strategies, and the necessary qualifications and competencies of school directors
has been established. |
The School Head
newspaper has been published since 1997, its editor-in-chief is Ms. Olena Onats, the USHA's President. In order to activate
participation in international educational projects, the regional "Ukraine-Netherlands-Byelorussia-Bulgaria" ESHA-DEEP programme
dedicated to urgent issues of modern school management and professional training was implemented until 1999. The international
programme dedicated to issues of present-day school guidance and management - UDEM (a Ukrainian-Dutch project) has been running
since 2001. Contacts with the International Conference of Principals (ICP) have been established and existing links between USHA
and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and governmental organizations have been noticeably strengthened. In recent
years, cooperation between regional organizations and educational authorities has become more fruitful. The cooperation between the
Kyiv School Heads Association (Head - Business Lyceum's Director Lyudmyla Parashchenko) and the Central Department of Education
and Science (Head of the Department - Boris Zhebrovskiy) is an outstanding example. |
